The founders needed to know whether people would really post and turn up — and they had the money for one attempt, not three.
What was wrong
The founders had a hunch that people would gather around things happening on their own street, and enough money for one attempt at finding out. A thin prototype wouldn't answer it; a full social network would spend the money before the question was answered.
What we built
An app for one neighbourhood at a time: boards for the area you're standing in, events with a real headcount, and chat that arrives instantly. Everything that wasn't needed to answer the question was cut.
